If I were to start a metal detecting service. Do you believe it would succeed?

Taylor asked:
I want to begin a metal detecting service that would include finding lost jewelery on the surface, and relics within the ground. I was going to charge $20/hr for relics, and $15/hr for jewlery with a 1/2 hour minimum.

Probably not, unless it is in an area notorious for find such stuff.

To be honest i do not think you could make much money at this. As metal detectors can be bought for not much money these days, and are easy to use.
And if you are looking for things could take days and you may not even find anything, cannot see anyone paying you for days of work, for that price they could buy a really good detector and keep it.

It could very well succeed. But people looking for relics will most likely have a way to find them on there own. You may find more costumers if you market yourself in things such as finding septic tanks or underground utilities and you want to make sure that if this is your hobbie that you dont turn it into to much of a job because then it becomes work and is no longer fun

N0t enough money in it to be worth it. As a side business, sure and its fun.
