Metal Detecting Questions:
How do you prospect for gold in my area.?
We have several creeks on our land and they contain some trace amounts of gold. We confirmed this with an acid test. Supposedly gold is predominately in flour and sand form in our area, what the best way to collect without squatting by a stream with a pan. And what do we do with it once we get a substantial amount?
You can try sluicing the sand or, if it is permitted you can use a dredge and sluice combination.
Once you get a bit of gold you can ask your local Bureau of Land Management for advice.
They might have a list of approved buyers. You can sell raw gold on e-Bay too, and most of the assay or refining offices have either in house buying of raw gold or they know buyers.
Most raw gold has other metals with it and you usually only get about 75% or 80% pure gold.
If you have any reasonable amount of gold it makes sense to do the assay because the other metals with the gold are sometimes worth a lot too.
