Ashkan A asked:
I got a metal detector as a gift but I don’t know what to do with it. I do live by a hiking trail. Would there be a chance that there would be something there?

It can be a fun hobby. Practice with burying coins and nails and different kinds of metal to learn the ins and outs of the machine. This will take awhile.
Next, go to a park, beach, playground, someplace where things can be lost and practice .
When you begin to find things it will raise your interest and maybe you will be hooked.
I just might do all that myself !!!

Yes, you just might.
anywhere people go they loose things. That’s the beauty of a detector. I just met a man this autumn who travles the WORLD with his and makes a living selling the items he finds. Some are historical, some antiques, some collectibles and some just cool stuff.
Beaches, parks, campgrounds, outdoor concert areas or dirt/field type parking lots.
here is a link to a neat site that shows a few ways of working with a new detector.
be creative. I see lots of folks working the beaches and parks where I live. try to think of other places that people currently gather or places where people used to gather but DON’T anymore. if you can find a vacant lot that used to be a bus stop or playground, then you might have found a cool spot to hunt that others might not be on to.

Battle fields are another cool spot to find thing’s like bullet’s and other such war related stuff. Then you got beaches, park’s,pool surronding’s and anywhere bunch’s of people gather.
