What are places to use a metal detector?

We got a metal detector. What are some places we can use it? We live in a huge apartment complex and there are some big parks a few miles away. If we go there and it picks up something, are we allowed to dig?? The beach is 4 hours away so we cant go there anytime soon. Any advice and ideas would be so helpful!! Thanks so much

    you can not dig in parks public areas, beach, I guess not so as it’s considered a public place. If you do own a land, you may dig, excavate, do whatever you want in your own land, but not in someone else’s land or public property. Actually, there’s nothing to do with a metal detector in the city. I’m considering it as a “metal” detector for gold etc. Not a pipe – electric wire detector which locates pipes and wires in the walls.
