Metal Detector – What features are important in 1st time purchase?
Posted by admin
Jennifer H asked:
My husband has always wanted a metal detector – I have decided to purchase one for Father’s Day as a gift. Can I get a decent one for about $300? What features are most important in buying one of these? I do not know enough about these to make an informed decision. He would be an amateur tresure hunter, but I would like him to be able to “grow” with the device – that is – not out-row it too soon!
Thanks!

didn’t you ask this last week?
You cannot but a “decent” metal detector for $300.00.
You can buy junk at WalMart, but it is money wasted when your husband won’t find anything except nails and pull tabs.
Buy a quality device and it will pay for itself.
I happen to like Minelab, they are kinda rare. Perhaps the most popular is made by White’s Electronics. You can find a local dealer and go visit them, they will let you play with each model. Maybe if you get lucky, they might have a used digital detector.

You can buy an inexpensive metal detector, but your husband probably won’t have a pleasant time with it. The cheap ones don’t work all that well and will be discouraging for any level of user, including a first timer. Whites produces some of the best metal detectors on the market. The link is below. See what they have to offer in your price range.
