I found a black rock with my metal detector and I have been trying to find out what it is? Any ideas?

I was doing some metal detecting along the shores of Lake Ontario when I was on vacation. The mental detector went crazy beeping on this rock. I have searched several sources and even asked the guy at the metal detector store. Does anyone know what this rock might be?
It is solid, dull black and you can see many flecks of black crystal like bits in it. I unfortuntely can’t get a good picture of it?

Posibly an iron meteorite if lucky

If it is smooth and definitely a “rock” it probably just has a high iron content.

Go to a gemologyst, I am sure they can help you.
Would you please BE A GEM and answer my questions and rate it if you think it is interesting or not?

I don’t think metal detectors usually pick up rocks unless there is metal in it. Meteorites can be picked up with a metal detector it might be worth looking online if that is the rock you found.

If it’s shiny and lustrous it could be obsidian.

If it was on the lakes it is definitely an iron rock of some sort

Sounds like magnetite, or possibly a nickel ore.
