Getting my first metal Detector, help!?

Im getting this metal detector : http://www.amazon.com/Bounty-Hunter-VLF-Metal-Detector/dp/B0001654J0 . It seems like a good metal detector. I have a few questions: Is this a good metal detector? Is there anything else I need besides batteries? Any tips for me? I will be mostly using the metal detector on beaches, in the woods, in my backyard. Also, can you locate plastic with a metal detector? I know this is an absurd idea because it’s called metal detector, but you never now. Thanks ahead of time!

First, no, a metal detector will not detect plastic. As far as the quality of this one, read the reviews on the site you link to. Many of them aren’t good reviews. As far as my opinion, it my do for a young person but if you want a serious metal detector I don’t think it will fill the bill. It simply doesn’t cost enough to be a quality device. Check the link below for quality metal detectors. Compare these with the one you’re thinking of buying.

Do oven have a gas shut off switch? Water fell in the oven when it was on and it wont work?

I found a nub which appears to a pilot light but it feels like its made out of metal. I put a flame to it with the oven on and it still wont work.

Call your gas company. They will check it for free.

EDIT: I say this because they can show you how to relight the pilot and also check that the thermocouple (sometimes called the “generator”) is working properly if your oven is in fact a pilot light type.

If your oven is pilotless, then the ignitor may be broken or damaged. They can tell you that as well.

It’s part of their job to ensure that your gas appliances are working properly and safely… take advantage of it!

something for painful joints?

i tested negative for all arthritic action but my joints hurt something awful. the on-coming cold seems to be hitting me particularly hard. i take gluocosamine. i tried flax seed oil but it gave me hideous breakouts. i’ve heard a few other suggestions such as ground cinnamon and shark fin something or other. i’m willing to try anything. it’s getting increasingly difficult to work. climbing the stairs is hell on my hips. i’m having trouble grasping a pen, especially after a long day.
i’m not old at all and i use my hands constantly. i’m terrified of what this is going to mean for my future.

You didn’t mention the common treatments like aspirin and ibuprofen. Have you tried them? Good for both pain and stiffness.

I have problems with arthritis in my hands, and since I am at the keyboard all the time I can’t afford to be stiff. I tried Aspercreme on them, and it seemed like a miracle. Both stiffness and pain went away. I understand that it doesn’t work for some people because it doesn’t absorb through the skin the same in everyone, but I highly recommend trying.

Another thing is heat. With something like a hip joint that hurts, sleeping with a heating pad on it will make it so much less stiff in the morning.

Then there is the thing they call the counter-irritant. The Ben-Gay or the Icy Hot. What these do is make your skin feel warm or tingly, and your nervous system feels the warm and tingly and may block out some of the pain.

I can see you are frustrated, and I hope some of this helps.
